CURRENT · ELECTRICITY 2026

Electricity costs in 2026: will lower network charges reach you?.

Lower network charges can reduce one cost component. Whether your own bill changes depends on your tariff and supplier notice.

As of 17 October 2026 · about 4 minutes to read

A reduction in one price component is good news, but it is not an automatic price reduction for every contract. Electricity bills should always be read as a whole.

Why one figure is never the whole answer

The energy price, basic charge, taxes, levies, network charges and contractual terms interact. A change in one element can be offset or passed on differently in an individual tariff.

The current supplier notice is more meaningful than a general headline. It states when a change takes effect and which part of your price is affected.

What to compare

Use a full year of consumption where possible. This avoids comparing a monthly instalment with a yearly tariff price.

When considering an alternative, include the duration, cancellation period, price guarantee and conditions after the first contract year – not just an introductory figure.

A short checklist

  • supplier notification
  • annual consumption in kWh
  • energy price and basic charge
  • contract term and cancellation period
Good to know: Compare the complete terms and share personal information only when it is needed for a specific step you have chosen.
