Network operators publish provisional figures before the new year. They can be useful context, but they do not determine what every household will ultimately pay.
What the published figures mean
Network charges are part of the electricity price and can differ by region. Preliminary figures show one component of the future calculation, not a complete offer.
Your supplier, tariff structure, annual consumption and any price guarantee also matter. A headline about lower or higher charges therefore cannot replace a look at your own contract.
A practical way to check your situation
Keep the current price notice and your latest annual bill together. Check the effective date, the energy price per kilowatt-hour and the fixed basic charge.
If your supplier changes its price, the notification and its deadline are the key documents. That is the point at which it makes sense to compare the overall terms calmly.
A short checklist
- effective date of the price change
- energy price and basic charge
- annual consumption used for the calculation
- scope of any price guarantee

This guide gives general information for energy contracts in Germany. It does not replace an assessment of your individual contract, deadlines or legal situation.
