GUIDE 09 · SUPPLIER SWITCH

The supplier switch process: the key steps.

From first overview to supply start: a clear guide to the electricity or gas supplier-switch process.

As of 17 October 2026 · about 4 minutes to read

A supplier change follows a structured process. Knowing the steps helps you keep an overview without worrying that electricity or gas will simply stop.

From enquiry to supply start

First, clarify the current contract, consumption and the tariffs that may fit. Then select a new offer only after checking its full terms.

For an ordinary cancellation, the new supplier can generally coordinate the switch. You receive a confirmation and a planned supply start date.

The grid and meter stay the same. Supply continues during a normal change; where needed, the basic supply arrangement provides a safeguard.

Where special care is needed

A special cancellation right, for example after a price change, has its own deadline. In that case, take action yourself and keep evidence.

Read confirmations carefully and ask if the planned supply date or requested data is unclear.

A short checklist

  • current contract and deadline
  • full terms of the new tariff
  • confirmation and supply start date
  • special-cancellation deadlines when applicable
Good to know: Compare the complete terms and share personal information only when it is needed for a specific step you have chosen.
