A move involves many tasks. Energy should be on the list early so that the supply address, move-in date and meter readings are recorded correctly.
Before and on moving day
Record the new supply address and move-in date as early as possible. For electricity, registration cannot usually be made retroactively.
Photograph or note the meter number and meter reading when moving in and out. This helps with the final bill and later questions.
Do not forget the old contract
Check whether the current contract can move with you, ends regularly or can be cancelled because of the move. This depends on the individual contract and supply situation.
If no new electricity contract is in place at move-in, basic supply normally prevents an interruption. A better tariff can then only start for the future, not retrospectively.
A short checklist
- old and new supply address
- move-in and move-out dates
- meter number and reading
- existing supplier and contract documents
